I am Sarah Lynch, founder of Swim Buddies. I have been teaching swimming for almost 15 years and I can honestly say I have loved every minute of it!
The connection that is built when I work directly with an individual, of any age, allows me to bring them on a journey of realising their full potential in the water. Through this aquatic journey of learning how to become comfortable and confident in the water, individuals overcome their fears so they can progress and become competent swimmers.
What is most important to me and my team is to create a safe space & comfortable learning environment, making the process as enjoyable as possible. Ultimately gaining the trust of the individual is at the core of what we do.
I hold an Honors degree in Health, Fitness & Leisure Studies from the Institute of Technology Tralee, specialising in Aquatics & Adapted Physical Activity. I am a Level 2 Swim Teacher and Level 1 Swimming Coach through the national governing body Swim Ireland. I have experience in Halliwick Swim Therapy Concept , which was devised to teach people with special needs. I worked for Limerick Youth Service and Enable Ireland Children’s service, where I was part of the Family Support Service team and Physiotherapy team delivering aquatic therapy to children with primary physical disabilities. I have also completed the Coach Education course with world acclaimed Swim Smooth.
Originally from Kerry I moved to Galway 2010 after a year travelling and living in New Zealand. I began part time work as a swim instructor for group lessons in Ocean Fitness. Shortly after, by popular demand, I began to teach children and adults on an individual basis. Teaching in my unique style and personal touch, further demand grew for private lessons and the momentum started to build!
The addition of my sister, Caitriona Lynch, to the team in 2014, has added huge value to our adults programme and in-particular our specialised Open Water Swimming Programme, Ebb & Flow.
Over my time as a swim teacher I have seen first hand the progress and benefits gained, when people have an enjoyable and focused learning experience. Having been a lover of the water since childhood, but never swimming competitively, I feel I have a special understanding to all who want to learn to swim. My aim is to do my best to help people understand the properties of water and make them feel comfortable in and around it without having the pressure to perform to a competitive standard. The knowledge and experience I have gained over the years has allowed me to build an ethos which runs right through all teachers of The Swim Buddies Team.
